The Opportunity

A Government Department is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team in Cairns on a temporary basis. This role plays a critical part in supporting project delivery through the preparation of accurate cost estimates, tender submissions, and project specifications.

Working closely with internal project teams and external stakeholders, you will analyse project requirements, interpret technical documentation, and contribute to compliant and competitive tenders. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with strong analytical skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing accurate cost estimates for projects and tenders
  • Developing tender submissions and supporting documentation
  • Interpreting technical drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Analysing project requirements to identify risks and cost efficiencies
  • Supporting procurement and tender evaluation processes
  • Collaborating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Ensuring estimates and submissions align with organisational objectives and industry standards
  • Maintaining compliance with workplace health and safety requirements

About You

You are a detail-oriented estimator with a strong understanding of construction and tendering processes, who can confidently translate technical information into accurate cost outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Relevant qualifications or trade experience in cost estimation, tender development, or construction
  • Demonstrated experience in estimation and tender preparation
  • Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and time management skills
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety standards
  • Knowledge of procurement processes (highly regarded)
  • Current Driver’s Licence
